Kia Ora and Welcome
Te Ara Mokoroa: The Long
Abiding Path of Knowledge
Kia Ora and welcome to Volcanic
Delta '11, the eighth Delta conference on the teaching
and learning of undergraduate mathematics and statistics. The
2011 conference will be held at the Millennium Hotel, on the edge of Lake
Rotorua , amongst the boiling mud-pools and geysers in the
internationally acclaimed geothermal wonderland of Rotorua,
New Zealand. Delta '11 builds on the knowledge and collegial
networks established in previous Delta conferences, a series
of biennial southern hemisphere symposia that began in
Brisbane in 1997. Delta attracts a wide international audience
of research mathematicians and educators committed to
improving undergraduate mathematics and statistics
education.
Subsequent conferences have been held in:
Laguna Quays, Australia 1999
Kruger National Park, South Africa 2001
Queenstown, New Zealand 2003
Fraser Island, Australia 2005
El Calafate, Argentina 2007
Gordon's Bay, South Africa 2009
The 2011 conference will commence
with a welcome reception and opening address on Sunday 27
November, and finish 5 days later with a plenary address
before closing around lunchtime on Friday 2nd December.
Wednesday 30 November is reserved for excursions, which will
explore the scenic thermal wonders of Rotorua.
Delta '11 is jointly organised by the Departments of
Mathematics, Engineering Science and Statistics at The
University of Auckland; and the International Delta Steering
Committee.
