How to travel to Port Elizabeth
South Africa’s ‘wild’ province, the Eastern Cape features expanses of untouched beach, bush and forest. This was Nelson Mandela’s home province, and is an area with some enticing attractions – among them the Addo Elephant National Park, with the densest elephant population in the world; the dramatic Wild Coast; and, of course, Mandela’s home at Qunu.
Port Elizabeth Airport is located just a few kilometres out of the city centre and has regular flights to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and other South African airports.
All PE flights land at Port Elizabeth Airport (code PLZ). Known as the 10 minute airport because of its close proximity to Humewood Beach and the rest of the city, it’s great knowing you’ll never have too far to drive after landing if you’re staying in or around the city. There are no international flights in or out of Port Elizabeth Airport but you’ll always be able to connect to overseas destinations via Johannesburg or Cape Town.
Port Elizabeth is South Africa’s fifth largest city and as such you won’t battle to find domestic flights to PE anytime of the week.
